MLK Day of Prayer and Service

In collaboration with the Metropolitan Community Church of the Lehigh Valley (MCCLV) and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod's Racial Justice Team & LGBTQ+ Taskforce, we came together to honor the life and ministry of Martin Luther King Jr. through worship and service.

MCCLV hosted a deeply moving and spiritual worship service, which included a Choral Reading of Letter from a Birmingham Jail, featuring participants from both our synod and MCCLV. It was heartwarming to witness two communities uniting to reflect our commitment to justice, equity, and inclusivity as a Reconciling in Christ Synod, fulfilling God’s vision for all people.

Although some service projects had to be adjusted due to the recent snowstorm, we persevered. In addition to organizing and sorting donations for ASA Packer Elementary School and the Allentown Rescue Mission, participants engaged in a meaningful craft project that involved reviewing and meditating on some of Dr. King’s impactful quotes and messages. This activity provided a reflective and creative way to internalize his teachings while contributing to the day’s mission.

Thank you to everyone who participated, whether in person or online, as well as to all those who dedicated their time and effort to organizing and contributing to this meaningful event. You can watch the worship service on MCCLV’s Facebook page.
