Lutheran Day at the Capitol: Celebrating 45 Years of Advocacy and Service

The day commenced at Trinity Lutheran Church in Camp Hill, PA, with over 200 Lutherans from various connections and synods across Pennsylvania full with excitement and gratitude. Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in Pennsylvania (LAMPa) celebrated 45 years of dedicated advocacy, service, and hope.
Following a warm welcome from LAMPa's Director Tracey DePasquale, participants divided into various workshops, addressing tough topics ranging from hunger and housing to receiving updates on policy and learning how to make a real impact in our communities. Everyone departed armed with knowledge and a readiness to effect change.
Of course, this event wouldn't be complete without a moment of reflection and worship. ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton delivered a powerful sermon, reminding us of the work that needs to happen here on earth before we're welcomed home at heaven's gate. Our final hymn, 'Let Streams of Living Justice,' resonated throughout the sanctuary, empowering us as we mentally marched on to the Capitol to speak with our legislators.
Legislative visits, facilitated by LAMPa, provided attendees with the opportunity to engage directly with policymakers and advocate for policies promoting justice and equity. Our concerns specifically addressed climate and hunger issues within our communities.
The day ended with a Gala Dinner and Celebration of Advocates. Rev. Inge Williams from Friedens, Shartlesville, was presented with the 'Serve. Pray. Speak.' award for advocacy.
Looking back on the day, it's clear that this celebration was about more than just a milestone. It was a celebration of community, advocacy, and the power of coming together to create change. As we move forward, let's carry the spirit of this event with us, knowing that together, we can build a brighter, more compassionate future.
