Feeding the Community, Sharing God’s Love
Prince of Peace, Johnsonville

From February 21-24, volunteers from Prince of Peace in Johnsonville, through their ministry POP’s Treasures, came together with a shared purpose: to prepare meals for those in need at Safe Harbor in Easton. Safe Harbor serves two meals daily—one for 80 people and another for 60-65—offering nourishment and support to individuals experiencing food insecurity, unemployment, and homelessness.
With dedication and care, the volunteers prepared a variety of meals. Breakfast featured hash browns, eggs with bell peppers, sausage, and cheese, served alongside fruit cocktail and a pineapple-cherry cake for dessert. Another meal included turkey with stuffing, corn, carrots, applesauce, and a peach crumb cake. A homemade soup, filled with potatoes, carrots, onions, celery, and turkey, was paired with bread, butter, and a vanilla-strawberry poke cake topped with whipped cream.
In just a few days, over 220 people were fed. Though the preparation required time and effort, the volunteers found joy in their work. Their time together in the kitchen was not just about cooking, it was about fellowship, service, and a shared commitment to helping others.
For them, this experience was a reflection of what it means to love, heal, and engage like Jesus. By providing food to those in need, they were living out their faith in a tangible way, ensuring that their neighbors felt cared for and supported.
One especially meaningful moment came during the meal delivery. The ingredients for the meals had been purchased using proceeds from the church’s resale boutique, made possible through community donations and purchases. When the volunteers arrived at Safe Harbor, they were greeted by a group eager to help carry the food to the kitchen. The gratitude and excitement of those receiving the meals were evident, reinforcing the impact of their efforts.
This act of service also deepened the faith of those involved. The congregation had recently reflected on God’s promises and the idea that there is always enough to share. Witnessing firsthand how their collective efforts could provide for others strengthened their belief and inspired them to seek even more ways to serve.
What began as a simple effort to provide meals became something much greater—a testament to generosity, faith in action, and the power of a community coming together to do God’s work with their hands.
