On Tuesday, April 15, leaders and members of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod gathered at the Lutheran Center in Allentown, for the annual Chrism Mass and Affirmation of Call. This moving worship service brought together Pastors, Deacons, Synodically uathorized Lay Ministers, Licensed Lay Ministers and Pastoral Care Providers to renew their shared commitment to the ministry of the Gospel.

Bishop Christopher deForest preached and led the liturgy of renewal, inviting all in attendance to reflect on the sacrificial ministry of Christ and their own callings. “I exhort you always to be mindful of how great a treasure has been entrusted to us: the care and nurture of God's holy people and the proclamation of Christ's love in word and deed,” Bishop deForest said. “May we never tire in seeking to bring others into a deeper faith and knowledge of God.”

The assembly responded with heartfelt affirmation: “I am,” echoing the vows of baptism and the promises of ordination. Anointing with oil followed, as a sign of healing, baptismal identity, and call to service in Christ’s name.

As Holy Week draws near, the Chrism Mass offered space for reflection, recommitment, and joy in the work of ministry we all share.
