  • About the synod:

    The Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States. The synod brings together congregations, Synod Authorized Worshiping Communities (SAWCs), and Synod Authorized Outreach Ministries (SAOMs) across Northeastern Pennsylvania to strengthen ministries, support leaders, and serve local communities.

  • Geographic area:

    The Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod serves a 14-county region encompassing Berks, Bradford, Carbon, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Luzerne, Monroe, Northampton, Pike, Schuylkill, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming counties.

  • Purpose:

    Connecting and equipping congregations and leaders for life-giving mission and ministry: so they can love like Jesus, heal like Jesus, and engage like Jesus - growing young, gaining strength, and going beyond death to life.

  • Relationship to the ELCA:

    The synod is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and belongs to ELCA Region 7. A synod is a regional community of congregations and ministries that work together to carry out the church’s mission. There are 65 synods in the ELCA.

  • Bishop:

    The Rev. Jennifer K. Dee, the synod’s fifth bishop and first woman to serve in the role. She began her first six-year term on September 1, 2026.

Bishop Jennifer Dee's Bio

The Rev. Jennifer Dee is bishop of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Elected on June 6, 2026, to a six-year term, she is the first woman to serve in this role.

 

Ordained in 2008, Bishop Dee previously served as lead pastor and associate pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Robesonia, Pennsylvania, and as pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Loogootee, Indiana. She holds a Master of Divinity from Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia and a Bachelor of Arts from Keene State College.

 

Her ministry includes youth engagement, outdoor ministry, internship supervision, and community outreach. Grounded in servant leadership, she emphasizes listening, collaboration, and helping others thrive in their callings.
