Primary Ministry
Project
WHAT is a Primary Ministry Project?
Each 6261 Ministry Community will share at least one primary ministry project. Primary ministry projects are a shared ministry that the 6261 Ministry Community does together for the sake of the Gospel to meet a need within their surrounding community. Often, a primary ministry project will focus on one (or more) of the NEPA Synod shared values of LOVE, HEAL, and ENGAGE – but this will take different shapes in different areas.

A Primary Ministry Project might look like:
- Loving the Land - working on green initiatives, such as reducing our waste as congregational institutions and as individuals
- Healing the Hurts - addressing issues of poverty, mental health, food insecurity, affordable housing, or racial inequities
- Engaging the Stranger - focusing on truly welcoming and creating safe spaces for young people, people of color, and LGBTQIA+ communities

Other Ideas include:
- Parsonage transformed to provide temporary housing
- Food Ministry Web of food pantries, community gardens, and outdoor worship
- Neurodivergent preschool
- Senior citizen center which hosts different social and spiritual activities at each congregation of the Bundle
- Suicide prevention programs and support groups

Primary ministry projects will be discerned by the 6261 Ministry Community, and may benefit from a coach or the Deacon accompanying them on their discernment journey. It may take some time to discern what your 6261 Ministry Community can do better together than as individual congregations and to assess all the resources your Bundle has been gifted with. It may take time to explore the surrounding community and assess the current needs and realities of the people in your congregations’ neighborhoods. Or, your 6261 Ministry Community may have so many overlapping ministries already, that it is obvious right from the beginning what you all can do together! No matter how it comes about, all primary ministry projects will benefit from the gifts, time, resources, expertise, experiences, and connections that each member and each congregation brings to the table.
Whatever the passion and contextual need, a 6261 Ministry Community can commit to this profound work for the sake of the Gospel and one another.
