The community of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Zion Grove recently came together to host a Ham & Chicken Dinner on Saturday, November 9. The event was a vibrant celebration of community, hospitality, and delicious homemade food.

Guests arrived to a warm and inviting atmosphere of the church hall, reflecting a cozy, family-style dining experience that awaited them. The meal featured a mouthwatering spread of homemade ham, chicken, potato filling, gravy, green beans, coleslaw, and freshly baked bread. The highlight for many was the array of homemade desserts. Some guests enjoyed the desserts so much that they couldn't resist taking extras home.

Reflecting on the experience, many found parallels with biblical stories of abundance and community. The feeding of the 5,000 came to mind, though perhaps more fitting was the Wedding Feast at Cana in Galilee. While there was no wine, the abundance of food and the joy shared among those present echoed the festive spirit of that biblical celebration.

Seeing the hall filled with people enjoying their meals and each other's company demonstrated the importance of community gatherings. This display of togetherness and joy strengthened the community bonds and emphasized the importance of these gatherings in nurturing those relationships.

The impact of the event on the congregation's faith was profound. It was an opportunity to embody the values of welcome and hospitality that are central to their beliefs. The success of the dinner, seconded by the positive coverage in The Anthracite Post, served as a testament to their efforts and encouraged them to continue their mission of community engagement.

In the end, the Ham & Chicken Dinner was more than just a meal. It was a celebration of community, faith, and the joy of sharing with others. The event left a lasting impression on all who attended and strengthened the bonds within the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church community, inspiring them to continue their journey of loving, healing, and engaging like Jesus.
