Women’s Resource Centerin Montrose, Susquehanna County
The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Mission District has had an ongoing mission with the Women’s Resource Center in Montrose, Susquehanna County. We were challenged by Bishop Zeiser to start a Lutheran presence in that County.
Every year our Mission District donates $200 per month to the WRC in Montrose to help women and the children. The money can be used to help with a utility bill, buying gasoline or other expenses that might arise. We also purchase a Christmas gift for the children in the families that are serviced by the Women’s Resource Center.
This year we decided to help out a little further and buy backpacks and school supplies for the children. The Mission District received a grant from the Witness and Service Ministry of the Synod to purchase the back packs and school supplies. The WRC workers were overjoyed to get the supplies. Also, an additional donation of 50 school supply kits came from the Red Cross.
With all that goes on in the lives of the families, as mothers worrying about how they are going to feed their children and put clothes on their backs, school supplies for their children are not a priority item for them. So we took the project on as God guided us along. God’s Work, Our Hands.
