Now in its’ 9th growing season, The Potato Project, based near Fleetwood (eastern Berks County), distributes potatoes, sweet corn, and carrots to needy families through the Greater Berks Food Bank network. Sweet corn harvesting begins on Wednesday, August 9. Potato Harvesting will soon begin soon. Synod youth groups and their adult advisors are invited to Google: iHartHarvest and sign up to help with the harvest on Saturdays and Sundays in September at various properties in the greater Fleetwood area.
On Saturday, September 30 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., at Zion’s Lutheran Church, 354 Zion’s Church Road, Shoemakersville (www.zionslutheran.org) a fundraising festival will be held including a Partner Supper beginning at 5 p.m. Meal Tickets are $15 each. Congregational teams can participate in the Potato Palooza, a team event for all ages, beginning at 3 p.m. Congregations may contribute potato food items to sell that day.
