Reformation 500 Celebrations

If you are planning a joint commemoration of the Reformation with your Roman Catholic neighbors, please inform the synod (Paul Braden at nepsinfo1988@gmail.com ) so that we can keep a calendar of these ecumenical events.

Scheduled Events

The Allentown Band will perform three Reformation Concerts. The final concert date is:
October 29 at Union Lutheran Church in Schnecksville – 3:00 PM

October 26. There will be a showing of the new Luther movie “Martin Luther: An Idea That Changed The World” to support the Food Pantry at the Lutheran Campus Ministry at Kutztown University and the IHartHarvest, Inc., The Potato Project. Go to: http://luthermovie.link/Reading to order tickets.

October 28-29. Ken Medema will help the Lehigh Mission District celebrate with a free concert on Sunday, October 29 at 3:00 PM. The concert will be held at St. Peter, Hanover Avenue, Allentown. A free will offering will be taken. Dinner to follow service. Reservations can be made by calling the church office at 610-432-8762.

October 29. Reformation 500 Festival Worship. The Northern Lehigh Valley Mission District extends an invitation to all to join us at 4:00 pm Sunday, October 29 at Faith Lutheran Church, Whitehall. The service includes a message from Dr. Martin Luther (as portrayed by Pastor David Newhart). We invite choir members to join in a large mass choir. The choir will be singing the anthem commissioned by the Bishop of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod “God is our Refuge and Strength” by Darin Lewis. Dr. Lewis will be conducting the choir.

October 31. Reformations Yesterday and Today. 9:00 a.m.-l:30 p.m. The Saal, Moravian Theological Seminary. Join Moravian Rev. David Bennett, Lutheran Bishop Samuel Zeiser and Episcopal Bishop Sean Rowe for presentations and a panel discussion with Rev. Drs. Craig Atwood, Kelly Denton-Borhaug, Brian Pavlac and Steve Simmons, plus Joint Eucharist and Lunch at College Hill Moravian Church. This is a free event, but registration is required. November 5. The Oley Community of Churches Commemorates the 500th Anniversary of The Reformation: ‘We Gather In The Present To Embrace The Past, And Lean Into The Future.” 4:00pm at Friedens UCC, 337 Main Street, Oley (610-987-3536). Join Us For Fellowship, Food And Music By The Mount Laurel Brass Quintet!
