A Reformation 500 event was held at the Leesport Farmers’ Market banquet hall in Leesport on Monday evening, October 16. There were approximately 100 individuals in attendance from congregations in Berks and Schuylkill counties. Bishop Samuel Zeiser spoke on the joy of being a Lutheran. The choir and brass group from Zion Lutheran Church, Perry Twsp. performed. There were games and prizes for the best Reformation themed display, and a fine meal of sausages, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and potluck dishes and desserts brought by attendees was enjoyed by everyone present.
A check facsimile was presented by the East Berks Mission District to the United Lutheran Seminary for $9,250. It represented the profit from a specialty brew beer sale in the spring honoring Katie Luther. The beer was brewed by Saucony Creek Brewing Company, in Kutztown, PA.
The evening was sponsored by the Hamburg Cluster of the East Berks Mission District and was organized by the Rev. Bruce Osterhout with a special grant from Thrivent Financial.
