Knitting Together the Ministriesof Word and Sacrament and Service
Invitation to Explore New Exciting Patterns of Knitting together the Ministries of Word and Sacrament and Service
We are gathered in worship, hear the Word, partake in the Bread and Wine, and take its goodness into the world in service. In other words, one comes with the others, Word, Sacrament, Service.
In our calls to the Ministry of Word and Service and Word and Sacrament we are rooted in the Word and, then our calls emphasize either Sacrament or Service. Ideally, we would work hand in hand on a daily basis. However, in the historical and practical realities of the church the two rosters have become less universally connected. Pastors often cover both areas; Deacons are often specialized; Congregations often cannot afford full or even part-time Deacon positions.
On November 16, Linda Zawaski and Anja Stuckenberger invite Deacons and Pastors into an explorative envisioning conversation of how to collaborate more broadly and deeply in the everyday life of the church. Questions we will consider are: How do we understand our calls? What works? What could be new models and structures that would facilitate new ways of collaboration? What are obstacles?
